American Trenchless Helping Frito Lay and the World Get Their Snack On

Frito 6

Summary

When faced with a serious challenge with an underground discharge line, Frito Lay called American Trenchless to find the solution.

American Trenchless Helping the World Get Their Snack On
The Frito-Lay facility in Beloit, Wisconsin plays a critical role in supplying snacks to people
around the world. When the plant discovered a major issue with one of its underground
discharge lines—badly corroded and leaking beneath the main production floor—it posed a
serious operational challenge.

A plumbing contractor was brought in to address the problem and began opening the
concrete floor to replace failing drain lines. However, one section of the damaged pipe ran
directly beneath a vital piece of production equipment. Excavating in that area would have
required moving the equipment and triggering a partial shutdown of the plant—something
that could disrupt operations and supply chains nationwide.

Fortunately, the plumber was familiar with American Trenchless Technologies.

American Trenchless was called in to evaluate the situation and quickly proposed a no-dig
trenchless solution. Using a temporary bypass plumbing system, the plant was able to
remain fully operational while repairs were made. Our team relined the damaged pipe
directly beneath the critical equipment—without excavation and without interrupting
production.

For this application, a specialized liner material was used that is designed to withstand
high temperatures and harsh industrial cleaning chemicals, ensuring long-term durability
in a demanding environment.

What would have taken weeks using conventional open-cut trenching methods was
completed in just a couple of days with trenchless pipe lining—saving time, avoiding
equipment relocation, and preventing costly downtime.

The result: a fully rehabilitated underground discharge line, a plant that stayed up and
running, and a problem solved with minimal disruption.

If you’re facing a no-dig or hard-to-access piping challenge, call American Trenchless.
